Head of Design - Womenswear
Head of Design – Womenswear
A large Indian manufacturer (exporter) with 20+ factories is seeking a Head of Design – Womenswear to lead their Design function of 30+ designers.
As the Design Head, you will be responsible for overseeing the creative direction and execution of their wovens and knits collections. You will be leading a team of 4 design managers and a talented group of 30+ designers.
The role is based in Gurugram and reports to the Managing Director.
Head of Design (Womenswear): The Role:
- To lead the Womenswear Design team of 30+, creating collections for buyers in the US, UK and Europe. Customers include M&S, A&F, Superdry etc.
- To put together design presentations to pitch for new business with existing as well as new customers
- To design garments, full repeat prints and other product embellishments that appeal to the retailer.
- Trend research, collaborative work with customer’s design teams, working to briefs, designing commercial on-trend best selling ranges
- Lead the design team to support product development through sample production by interpreting technical packs and comments
- Provide creative support during the product development process by looking for and implementing innovation in design to keep the range fresh and different.
- Oversee that the designers handover clear and concise design and tech packs to the factories. Ensure that the designers work closely with fit technicians to enable samples fit correctly and reflect the design vision.
Head of Design (Womenswear): The Person: You will
- have experience working for a manufacturer or supplier/buying house in India
- have a background in garment design (woven and knit) and would have worked with retailers in the US and Europe as customers
- be experienced in delivering trendy shapes and have a good understanding of garment construction and patterns.
- be experienced in managing large teams
- have confident presentation skills and be commercially savvy
- have excellent time management skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
