Sustainability Manager - UK
A large multi-site and multinational apparel manufacturer is seeking a Sustainability Manager In London to lead their Sustainability programs. Turning over $400M, the business manufactures woven and knitted garments sold worldwide including in the UK. They have a sales and design office in London.
The position is based in London.
Sustainability Manager: The Role: -
Manage and implement the overall sustainability goals (carbon footprint, net zero, water and wastewater management, chemical management including ZDHC) of the business in partnership with cross-functional teams and key stakeholders
- Manage the client relationships with existing customers (TESCO, Primark etc) as well as prospective customers
- Liaise with clients on all aspects of Compliance and Sustainable Manufacturing
- Ensure that the production practices within manufacturing units are in compliance
- Develop and implement sustainability programs (renewable energy, reduction in freshwater use, ETP, HIGG FEM & FSM, GHG etc) that will bring measurable operational, environmental and social benefits for the company that drives business value
- Work closely with buyers to ensure that in-house operations and manufacturing processes are way ahead of their sustainability goals
- Work closely with buyers and in-house commercial and product development teams to develop products that are fit for a circular fashion economy
- Lead the program to ensure compliance within manufacturing
- Ensure raw materials are ethically and sustainably sourced
- Ensure raw material traceability data is accurately filed in line with the needs of the customer’s systems and processes
- Ensure internal processes, including staff processes provide a safe and equal working environment
- Research sustainability fashion trends in the market, identify new opportunities and translate them into proactive actions
- Develop and nurture in-house sustainability culture and work practices through campaigns, projects, training etc
Sustainability Manager: The Person: -
Previous experience in Sustainability with apparel manufacturing or with an apparel retailer/brand/supplier
- Strong experience in Sustainability
- ESG and Compliance - Strong know-how in apparel manufacturing and product lifecycle
- Strong communicator with capacity to guide and persuade a wide range of stakeholders
- Well organised - Collaborative team player with good interpersonal and presentation skills
